Card 1

Interviewer
You are the host of a television debate show. Tonight's topic is Should advertising be banned?

Your guests are:

  • A top advertising executive here to defend adverts in the media
  • A concerned parent who believes adverts cause low self-esteem and should be banned

You must discuss the arguments for and against advertising to decide by the end of the show if adverts should be banned.

Scene: You are on the set, the show is about to go live. You welcome your guests and introduce the topic...

Card 2

Parent

You are a worried parent. Your 11 year old child has become obsessed with his/her appearance (wants to be thinner, wear designer clothes, etc.)

You believe that images adverts use are to blame because they all have thin, sexy people no matter what they are selling.

You have been invited on to a TV debate show to argue that All adverts should be banned .

There will be an interviewer and an advertising executive there.

Scene: You are on the set, the show is about to go live. The interviewer welcomes you and the executive to tonight's show.

Card 3

Advertising executive
You are a top advertising executive for a major advertising company. You are responsible for the adverts of many well-known brands.

You make a lot of money and enjoy your job.

You have been invited on to a TV debate show to argue that Adverts should NOT be banned .

There will be an interviewer and another guest who wants all advertising banned.

Scene: You are on the set, the show is about to go live. The interviewer welcomes you and the other guest to tonight's show.
